2020 Hair Extension Tips – Everything You Need To Know
If you are brand new to the idea of getting hair extensions, then is article is for you. I will help explain what hair extension options you will have to choose from and how long they will last.
A Little History
If I can personally speak directly to you, then it would be remiss of me to assume that you know everything about hair extensions. That is my job. Various hair extension companies have certified me since 2006.
My passion and curiosity about hair extensions started when there was just a little bit of a “buzz” about it, 14 years ago. The very first company that I had “heard” of was Great Lengths Hair Extensions.
Since I had only heard great things about their company, and it was the next “it” service for my salon to offer, it seemed like a good idea to take a class. Where I was in my career, at that time, it was just another specialized service to add to my certifications.
Now, in the present day, my “reasons” of offering hair extensions have changed, and I will talk about that later in this post.
Is Great Lengths The Best?
If you are the type of person that has to try different things, or have enough information presented to believe if “something is the best,” then I am right there with you.
As an educated hairstylist, I am curious by nature and wanted to be 100% certain that Great Lengths was the premium brand hair extension brand that they claim to be. So, over the years, I then pursued being certified by:
- Hair Talk
- So Cap
- Pure Hair Extensions
What I have personally experienced is that each brand does have its energetic marketing standpoint, and as a stylist, I have found that the two brands that fit my needs are both Great Lengths and Hotheads.
For Starters or Beginners:
Clip-in Hair Extensions
- Most Affordable
- You can take them in and out when you need to wear them
- Price ranges $60 per panel to $300+ for a full set
You are better off choosing to purchase 100% real human hair extensions.
The reason why is that you will be able to wash then, curl them, and style them just like you do with your hair.
The Next “Step Up” Option
Tape Hair Extensions
- Mid-range cost investment
- Thickening your hair can start at $500
- Lasts up to 1.5 Months
- Full Lengthening start at $1000+
- 100% Real Human Hair
- Great for special events or vacations
- Lay very flat
- Ideal for straight to wavy hair types
- Shorter Salon Appointments
- Save you time getting ready
Tape hair extensions are a more of a “semi-permanent” option than clip-ins.
You will save time on getting ready because now you can wash and style your hair.
Great Option for honeymoons, vacations, and if you “want to try it out.”
The BEST OPTION – Lasts 3 to 5 Months
Thermal Fusion or Cold Fusion Extensions
This option will give you the most of your money!
- LASTS UP TO 5 MONTHS
- Great for thickening a section
- Or Add more hair throughout
- Instant Gratification for Length
- Maximum color blending
- Thicken your ponytail
- Virtually Undetectable
- Ideal for most hair types and textures
- Straight, Wavy, and Curly Hair
- Add Splashes of color
- Fix a haircut
- 100% Real Human Hair
- Create a Haircut (Lob)
- Investment (Long term better option than Tape Hair Extensions)
- Starting at $600 to $4000+
- Exact Price by consultation
Why Fusion Extensions?
Now, let me revisit sharing with you why my “why” has changed about having to have hair extensions as a service today! Way back in 2006, was when I first became certified because extensions were just a “trending” service. So much has changed since then.
As an experienced hairstylist and seasoned hair extensionist, I couldn’t imagine not having extra hair to provide to my guests. It is like having “extra fabric.”
If you choose fusion extensions, then you will be able to experience MOST CUSTOMIZATION.
- Attachments (human-made keratin) are tiny and lightweight
- Fusion extensions are great for fine hair
- Colors can be custom blended
- You will have the maximum amount of hairstyling options
- 100% Real Human Hair
- You want to change your look quickly!
How hair extensions can help you!
CAN YOU RELATE TO ANY OF THE FOLLOWING?
If your hair is not thick enough, then add hair extensions.
If you want to add hair color but do not want to use chemicals….add hair extensions.
Did you get a poor haircut, and do you need to get your haircut fixed?…..add hair extensions.
Is your hair simply not long enough?…add hair extensions.
Do you wish, now, that you didn’t cut your bangs?…add hair extensions.
The #1 Questions is HOW MUCH ARE HAIR EXTENSIONS?
The best way to avoid “damage” is to do your research. Be sure not to have your decision be based solely on price.
That is a reasonable question, and the hardest to answer without having a consultation.
You will find that the internet will give you all sorts of information on this topic. However, many of these resources that like to provide “averages” cannot speak for an individual salon. My salon has invested a lot of time and education.
What is the average price of your extensions? Let’s pretend you needed your car fixed, and you were calling in on the phone to find out “how much.” Just like most diagnostic service-based industries, it is impossible to provide pricing without having you go in person.
The same is true when it comes to getting hair extensions.
You will find that prices can vary from salon to salon, and many prices do.
Before and After photographs can speak a 1,000 words!
What you really are paying for when you decide to get fusion hair extensions will be the attachment!
- Call their vendor if you need to (Great Lengths (800) 999-0809)
- Check Social Media
- Website presence
Important to know!
Be sure to ask to see their Great Lengths extensions certificate.
One certification does not cover an entire salon.
Whichever option you decide to invest your money in, remember this, you wear your hair every day!
- Do your research
- Opt to get a consultation
- Bring photos of inspiration for your hairstyle, color and length you are wanting
You will find that the consultation will be the most valuable part of your experience.
When you work with a true hair extension expert, they should really be able to help you make the best decision that is in your best interests.
